EllisDon partnered with Bio Graphene Solutions (“BGS”) and Tomlinson Ready Mix (“TRM”) to test a graphene-enhanced concrete admixture that allows for a 10% reduction in cement without compromising performance. After successful lab tests, the mix was piloted next to a standard sidewalk and showed no differences after a year of evaluation. Reducing cement by 10% cut carbon emissions by 280kg CO₂e per truckload. EllisDon intends to conduct further trials with BGS, targeting higher-strength mixes, greater reductions, and additional decarbonization methods like supplementary cementitious materials, starting with low-risk applications before broader use.
