At the PLFP site, EllisDon implemented a comprehensive water treatment facility to responsibly manage construction water generated from dewatering, bridge and marine structure construction, river valley excavation, and stormwater contact with contaminated soil. With a treatment capacity of 2.5 million litres per day and full Environmental Compliance Approval (“ECA”), the system reflected a proactive approach to protecting surrounding waterways and ecosystems.
Engineered for efficiency, the system could receive influent from up to eight sources simultaneously, collected in a one-million-gallon lake tank before entering a multi-stage treatment process. The facility reduced Total Suspended Solids (“TSS”), Volatile Organic Compounds (“VOCs”), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (“PAHs”), metals, and organics to meet stringent regulatory standards.
Following treatment, water was transferred to a two-million-gallon lake tank for quality verification under ECA requirements before being safely discharged to Lake Ontario. This innovative and carefully managed system underscores EllisDon’s commitment to environmental stewardship, regulatory excellence, and sustainable construction practices.
